Speedometer
Hey
For some reason the speedometer in my 2000 taurus bounces to lower speed than right back up for less than a sec or two. I would be going 70 miles an hour then it will bounce back to 40 and comes right back up. I am sure it is an electric problem because if i open the windows or if i turn on the high beem or even turn on low beam lights on hwy it happens. What do you guys recommend? thanks Ibrahim |

The problem actualy could be more serious than you think if your car is automatic. I have the same problem about a year ago in my '98 taurus se. It is a problem with the speed sensor. The speed sensor is built into the top of the transmission and it tell the car how fast it is going. when it stops working, no speed will register on your speedometer. This is not the problem. The problem is that it also tells the transmission that the car is not moving, and therefore the transmission will not shift gears. (At least not easily, there are ways around it but it destroys you tranny). If your car is manual transmission the problem is minor because you shift automaticly anyway. Hope this was helpful
