400 turbo tranny problem

I went to the drag races on the weekend & now I have a shift problem. The only way it will shift out of first is if I have my foot into it hard,as if I am still @ the track.possible torque converter?

Re: 400 turbo tranny problem

check the vacuum line going down the passengers side of the trany. it should be hooked to your manifold vacuum and then hook up to a metal tube then go down the side of the tranny and then to about two thirds of the way back on the passengers side to the vacuum modulator thing,(i cant think of the real name). that controls the shifts and if it comes unhoked it wont shift properly. similar to what your saying.

Thank-you 68chevelle,the rubber line was split where it hooks to the side of the tranny!Easy fix & saved me from going to the tranny shop. Thanx again!!
