Question Mr2 Mods??

Anybody know of any cost effective mods to do that would be a noticeable difference in performance?? I am not sure what to do next. Just want to go fast in a straight line and be able to corner. Right now all I have done is exhaust, boost controller(1bar), and a BOV. Any ideas?? Kinda short on cash right now, but still eager to work on it! Thanks

Re: Mr2 Mods??

The BOV is costing you performance for the sake of cool noises.

If you have a boost controller and exhaust, the nyour next step is an intake. I would suggest the K&N FIPK.

How does the BOV cost me performance?

Re: Mr2 Mods??

... because the best performance valve you can have is the one Toyota supplied on the car.

That piece is actually a BPV (by-pass valve), not a BOV (blow-off valve).
All but one aftermarket valves have a spring inside and they will never respond as the OEM air-based design.
There is one version of the HKS that copied the OEM design, but it lacks the Toyota's by-pass feature.

I'd also suggest the Apexi intake, and a downpipe. Like the KO downpipe. Also, some springs like H&R, eibach, or tein s-tech.

Best and cheapest mod would be losing some weight. Just think up things you could live without.

Spare tire
Lighter seats (I have NEX ones, cheap, and weigh 11 lbs each!)
Do you really need that AC? Power locks, windows, steering?
You could go even further, and pull interior out, like all that heavy carpeting

Oh yeah, I forgot, I gutted the stock cat. So, now I have a 3.5inch downpipe! Basically completely free flowing exhaust, just have a one muffler. I would love to get some tein coil-overs, but money is too low right now. I will look into some intakes though thanks for the ideas!

Re: Mr2 Mods??

Gutting the cat, is not equal to a 3" down pipe.
You still have that awful turbo-to-cat elbow that is restrictive.

Re: Mr2 Mods??

The cat that was gutted was the one that bolts directly to the turbo. Noother cats are in the exhaust system. Only the muffler before the exhaust tip remains.
