Questions about Mclaren's Gear Box and Transmission

Hey guys, i have this question to ask, if you mclaren pros can help me out, where is the transmission of the f1?

i've heard that the fuel tank is right between the driver seat and the engine, and the gear box is not directly at the center of the car, so , how does all these work?

any one got a picture of the bare car, or a blue print with all parts or soemthing?

For lack of a better piece of reference material, I'm attaching a photo of one of the Ultima-based McLaren F1 development mules. This one is 'Edward' and was the first recipient of the BMW Motorsport S70 V12 that would eventually power the F1.

You can't actually see the transmission in this photograph, but what you can see is the oversized muffler/silencer box. The transmission is located just ahead of and underneath that, and as drPhibes described, it runs from one side of the car to the other.

The M8's engine code was S70/1.

The text on that website is not entirely correct either. As I understand it, the M8 was in development and it's engine was being built by BMW Motorsports before Murray approached Rosche with the request to build the F1s engine. The M8 was not an offshoot of the F1 project - the proper way to explain it is that the F1s engine is a bespoke powerplant based loosely on the engine found in the M8 prototype, however the two engines reportedly share no parts.

Looking carefully the lower wishbone is bent too, probably had an argument with a curb.

That's interesting... I think I actually have those wishbones in my collection. Wondered which Gulf car it came from.
