Removing Exterior Chrome Trim
My 91 Maxima SE has a chrome trim over the side windows that, as was standard for the SE model is painted over in black. Anyway, some of it is finally coming off after 13 years. I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the trim so I can repaint it. I'd rather paint it off the car, but I'm worried about damaging, bending it. Anything you can share is appreciated.
Cheers. |

Re: Removing Exterior Chrome Trim
Slowly pry it of. Set some cloth around the prying area so the factory paint isnt damaged. The chrome trim can be a real bitch to get off without damage.

Re: Removing Exterior Chrome Trim
Yeah I will. I'm worried about taking paint off with it, as sections of the car have been resprayed in the past. poorly I might add. I'm wondering if I should just leve it on and mask it very carefully.

Re: Removing Exterior Chrome Trim
follow the seam of the strip with a razor , follow closest to the strip always. Your cutting the oversprayed poorly masked paint and seperating it from the strip so it doesnt pull paint off the rest of the car. I do this when I get painted cars from any body shop that had non removed panels or portions painted , they never do it nice.

Re: Removing Exterior Chrome Trim
That's a very good idea indeed. Little trick of the trade that most of us wouldn't have thought of. Thanks!
