98 GC transmission Rebuilt or new????
My transmission just went out on my 98 Grand Caravan with 105,xxx miles on it. It is my work vehicle, so I am going to put a lot of miles on it. Should I go with a rebuilt trans with a 6 month warrenty or a new trans with a 36,000 mile warrenty but probably double the cost? I would probably go through the warrenty in about 18 months. Also, how long should the next trans last??
Thoughts?? Thanks in advance |

Re: 98 GC transmission Rebuilt or new????
No such thing as a "new trans" except in a new car or by certain auto makers that have "captive" parts. All other are rebuilt, reman, or overhauled. Even under factory or aftermarket warrenty.
6 month warrenty??? You would probably have better luck with a wrecking yard tranny. If the tranny builder believes in his craft, he will offer at the very least a 24/24. This tranny, when rebuilt correctly, and treated well. Should last another 100K. Plus or minus some, of course. |

I thought there is a lifetime warranty on transmissions from aamco.
Have you checked it out |

Go to AAMCO they will give you a one year warranty at no cost and then if you wish you can purchase the extended warranty up to lifetime if you wish. Had mine tranny replaced by them and never had another problem.
