'86 F-250 won't pass emmisions test,HC of 4.62
hi, my 6 cyl. 300 cid 1986 f-250 with a 3 speed tranny fails the hc part of the massachusetts emmisions test with a reading of 4.62. I tried one of those additives, didn't work. changed the oil, plugs, wires, rotor and dist.cap but that didn't worl. Any suggestions? Larry

At nearly 18 year old, I would guess it's worn out. HC is due to excessive "blow by", and yes usually a fresh oil change will get it to pass. Time for a compression test, dry and wet.
