Front Struts

Hey all, I'm in need of a front strut replacement, and since I don't have a manual, I was wondering if anyone has done this before and what the difficulty is. Should I try it myself or just take it in. Thx.

Re: Front Struts

I did my 97 myself, with a manual spring compressor...wasn't bad, but wasn't easy. The instructions are simple. Jack up the car, remove the tire. Remove the brake hose from the holder on the shock mount. Remove the 2 bolts (15/16ths if I remember right) that hold the shock to the wheel assembly...don't let the wheel assembly dangle! Rest it on something so there is no pressure on the axel and steering. Then remove the 3 nuts that hold the shock assembly from under the hood. The remvoe the shock assembly and use the spring compressor and remove the 15/16 nut on top....careful, fully compress the spring before removing this nut. Then follow the steps backwards. Only suggestions, when trying to reseat the shock assembly with the wheel assembly I used a big screw driver to start aligning one hole then drove the bolt in with a hammer.

This was my second project on a car ever, so if I can do it...anyone else can.

What type of spring compressor did you use?
