2004 Nissan Maxima SE engine knocking sound

I own a 2004 Nissan Maxima. I am noticing that after the engine is warmed up, and I depress the gas pedal, I hear a tapping sound from the engine. When the car is rolling at about 35 mph, and I slowly depress the pedal, the tapping is constant until I depress the pedal harder. Can anyone help me out with this? Has anyone experienced this at all? That sound is very irritating. It actually sounds like valve tap. I took it to the shop, and (as usual), the service manager after stating that he hooked the car up to a computer, said it they could,'t find anything worng, although the technician that also rode with us said it sounded like valve tap. Any suggestions, or other info would be highly appreciated.

i know i already answered this question, but be persistant/pushy at the dealership. Tell them that you want this addressed and that Nissan has acknowledged this as a known issue. Even go as far as to tell them to look at the intake valve and see if a brass bolt is missing. That should be easy for them to see. And under warranty no less. IF you bought a servie gold upgrade bring it to another dealer. But make sure you get that thing on an open Repair Order before manufact warranty runs out otherwise you'll be SOL. They will understand that you have done your homework about this issue. I can only hope it's not the case, but have them check for that brass bolt...if it's not there....

keep me posted on this..i'm interested to see how it turns out for you. Also, make sure you push for a rental car! ALSO get a Nissan North America Rep working a case number. Should it go as far as I had too, he/she will come in handy down the line.

Thanks a million phathawaiian. I am going to use the information that you gave me when I (shortly) bring it to another dealer. I hope that they are able to erraticate the problem. I previousley owned 3 honda accords, and the last one that I owned was a result of the lemon law. They couldnt get the brake situation correct on the car, and so, I got an Lemon Law attorney, and settled with Honda. The car that I was having problems with was a 1999 Accord. the one that they replaced it with was a 2001. So the lemon law does work. Good luck on your part, and I will definately keep you posted with regard to my Maxima problem. thanks again.
