Boston Acoustics

I need to replace my speakers and I was thinking about Boston Acoustics. Have heard a lot of good stuff about em so thats why. However I don't have much money and would only be able to get a set of the FX series. Anyone had any experience with these? I'd be getting the FX5 if that helps any. Also I don't have an amp for speakers and would be running it of off the head unit but since the speakers are in really bad shape, I thought it would be better to upgrade those first before getting an amp. With the head unit, each speaker would be getting 25W rms. I'm also not very big into buying online, but if I could a much better deal online, I would consider doing it (I can usually haggle pretty well for the stuff at the local dealer). Any help is welcome.

Re: Boston Acoustics

How much are the FX5s costing you? I love boston acoustics, but they are extremely over priced. I would try and get some edis or cdts

They were selling them at $125/pair, but i can get them for like $100 which is pretty much what the MSRP on their site says so i think its a pretty good deal cause i've noticed that this store over-charges cause they offer that whole $1 install thing. Right now I want something that can give me pretty good mid bass, cause right now i dont have any. The jl w6 gives me good low end, but there is no mid bass.

They are coaxial, but i don't have a preference. I checked those edi's out and they seem like a good buy with that pre order, but still out of my budget. I could possibly see myself spending up to $200/pair but not more. I would also like to stick with 5 1/4 inch speakers cause I dont think bigger ones would fit without modifications.

I also looked at the cdts, but couldn't find prices on their website. Also how do you think the edis & cdts compare to boston acoustic. From what you said, it sounds like the whole thing with jl & ed & re.

EDIT: The prices are there, i just wasnt looking. But again I wouldnt be able to afford those....Im starting to think that maybe I should save a little more and buy a better set for around $300. But then again which of the three companies would you suggest? Or since ed doesnt offer 5.25", which of the two? The cdt CL series or Boston Rally?

Re: Boston Acoustics

yeah... You wont notice midbasses without components... You need to save up for an amp and components, cause you need both at the same time.

Re: Boston Acoustics

i ran fx5's in all 4 of the doors in my focus, it sounded good but not as good as components, save up the money for the components and an amp and you will like it better

Re: Boston Acoustics

and if you absolutely have to go for coaxs temporarily... the CDTs over at www.thezeb.com are the best deal
