I got two questions 1.Difference and 2. I want the sqweeling sounding...

I just got my 1992 no to long ago. I got too amitt, mr2 turbo are my favorite. but n e ways i just learnin about the mr2 turbo now and i want more info about it.

1. I wanna noe wat is the difference between a Waste gate(or i think (ABV) and a blow-off valve(BOV)? do i need both of them to get the squeeling sound or or just one. and tell me which and consider im on a tight buget.

2. I was experimenting on the waste gate or ABV by disconnecting the hoses that was conneced to it. i was driving and i got that sound i wanted but i dont noe if thats a good or bad thing. (i just started disconnection yesturday night) Is there a way i can keep that sound going or i need to coneect everything back?

THANK YOU

PS. wat is the life expectency on an mr2 turbo engine(as far as runnin wit out things fallin apart)?

The wastegate is what controls your boost pressure. It is inside your turbo.

The BPV (by-pass valve) is what vents the pressurized air when you get off throttle. It does this so the pressurized does not try to turn your turbo backwards.
People often replace the BPV with a BOV (blow off valve) so they can blow off the air to atmosphere for the "cool noise"

This is a mistake. It will cost you performance.
If you took the recirculation pipe off of the OEM valve to make the noise, you are making a bigger mistake.
You are letting in unmetered, unfiltered air into your system.

How long the car/engine will last depends on how you take care of it.
If you want it to last, I would start by putting that hose back on.

So the bov decreases performance because you are venting air into the atmosphere that has already been metered? Does this cause you to run a little richer?

A BOV will lessen performance in a variety of ways:
1. When it vents, you are losing metered air which makes your un very rich (notice the black cloud you often see as you hear the noise).

2. Since all but one have a spring, they respond slower than the OEM air based design

3. Since they have a spring, they only have an "ideal" range of boost they can be set for. The OEM valve works perfectly regardless of psi ... more importantly it works exactly the same regardless of psi.

4. NO aftermarket valve has the by-pass feature the OEM has. This gives you faster response and greater fuel economy.

Thanks a lot. I just read your webpage about BOV vs. BPV. Great info.
