help on the drive belt install
Hi I just finshed puttin on my new heads and have everything else done except the drive belt. My problem is i cant get the tensioner to go back, its like its stuck in the tightened postion.. when i took it off it sprang back and poof the belt was off now when its time to put back on no luck.Can anyone help me or give me some hints on something i can do.
p.s. it says on the tensioner to pull clockwise i did but it just goes down i need it to go up so i can get the belt on .. ty if anyone can help. |

You may need to replace the tensioner. Sometimes they go back to the tightened position and stay there. I had the same problem on one of my cars. Actually broke it trying to get the belt back on. If your car has more than 70k miles it would be wise to replace it anyway as they do tend to wear out.

thnxs it works but now my dam car wont start ... i just got the heads machiened,new spark plugs,new timing chian which was still tight,all new gaskets and now that ive put it all back togther it wont start. Theres power to everything and sometimes it wants to fire for the first couple of seconds but then after that it just goes back to turning over and not firing. Anyone got any ideas, would be muchly apperciated.

Are you certain you got the timing right. On the old distributer engines if the timing was off by 180 degrees you could just rotate the distributer and the car would start. With these new cars the computer will attempt to compensate as much as possible to get it to start. You might want to recheck the timing first. If that fails make sure you are getting correct fuel pressure.
