ls1 reliability

hey whats up,im about to get a 00 ss, im just wondering how the reliabilty is on these motors. can they handle racing or hard driving conditons. has any one that drives hard on these had any problems. and also does it take alot to make these run 12's, with out any forced induction. thanks

Re: ls1 reliability

one word.... bulletproof. these engines are crazy. six bolt mains, roller valvetrain, factory designed "shaft" rocker system, (youd have to pull a valve cover to see what im talking about) high rpm potential, great port design. the only negative thing ive seen on these engines is the problem of blowby caused by high rpm's damaging piston rings. its most evident in vettes, but camaros get it to. but if your gonna be doing bolt on mods anyway, a set of aftermarket piston rings is a no brainer to solve that problem.

if you have blowby, turbocharge it. Just turn up the boost to compensate

LS1's make VERY respectable power from the factory. The 1 main thing that is going to hurt you in the qtr mile is your elevation. most 6 speed cars are in the mid 13 sec range

Re: ls1 reliability

lmao, well it all depends on how far hes going, if your already pulling the heads, its not that much more work to pull the oil pan, and push the pistons up from the top, while leavin the engine in the car. guess its all perspective.
