Hello all
This is my first post, so I am sorry if it is long. My question is I have a 1988 Dodge Caravan. While I was driving in the rain last night, my wipers stopped working. When I pulled over, I was able to assist the wipers in completing the wiping motion, but it was really jerky. The problem is that they just won't work anymore. I checked the fuse, nothing. Any ideas? Thank you for any help. |

Re: 88 wiper probelm
Also, when I got my van. The Wiper Delay didn't work. I am going to replace the motor tonight, I hope that is what it is. If it is the switch, which I friend of mine said it might be. Costs like $93 to buy, not to mention what it would cost to have put in. Though I wonder if I could run the wires that go to the front wipers to the switch to the back wipers, and see if I can do it that way. Hmmmm...

Re: 88 wiper probelm
You may have a simple ground problem. Usually the motor is grounded thru the mounting bolts. Old cars develope rust issues. As a simple test, turn on the wipers and jump a wire from the wiper motor casing to a good ground in the engine compartment. If the wipers work, simply fasten the wire permamently. If they don't, it's some other problem.

Re: 88 wiper probelm
I am sorry, if I sound like a complete dork, but when it comes to working on cars, I am completly lost.
So if I take a wire from a metal part of the motor, and run it to the engine block, it could work? Wow I will try that like right away. I hope that is all it is. Thanks!!! |
