worth swapping?

I have a 93 si auto and i was wondering if it would be worth my time and money to swap in a b16. I know where i can get a b16 engine and tranny installed and switched to manual for roughly 3000 bucks. My question is if my SOHC engine can be built to have the same power for cheaper. can the sohc take boost well? is there good aftermarket support for internals? Any help is appreciated thanks!

Re: worth swapping?

D-series motors have a lot of aftermarket support and you can boost them to very good numbers provided you build them and reinforce them properly. I would still switch the car over to a manual though because automatic transmissions don't handle boost well. You'll need a different ECU as well - one meant for a manual transmission.

Re: worth swapping?

definately get rid of that auto tranni if you are planning to make power. This has nothing to do with a honda, but my buddy had a V6 auto mustang and put a procharger supercharger on it. yeah, that tranni blew up the other day. it lasted about 6 months. the torque converter immediatly started slipping after the charger was added. but its cool though, cuz he bought a 03' cobra after it blew. Auto trani's can be built, and some will even argue that a built auto will outrun a manual. but we are talking 350's and such, there is no after market support for automatic honda transmissions, hell there is hardly any for honda manual transmissions.
