I didnt get a ticket, but I have a question

Ok, I got my permit on saturday, and yesterday, I was driving to a place to eat. I was turning right, and there was a red light, that said No Turn on red. There was a cop sitting there, and he told me to go. Now, let's say a state cop pulled me over for doing that, could I get in trouble? I mean, the cop did tell me to go. But after he did that, I thought about what my dad was telling me. When my dad was taking his drivers test, the instructor told him to just slow down a little bit at a stop sign, because the appointments were behind schedule. My dad stoped at the sign, and the guy told him good job, because the passenger can never tell you what to do (well, unless they are TEACHING you how to drive )

And it seemed that it was illegal, but a cop told me to do it..... oh well, I dont know why I made this post. Do you think what the cop did was right anyway?

was the cop directing traffic? if not, you could probably be pulled over and hasseld some, but im sure you could probably clear it up with the cop who was sitting there.

Well, hears the deal, they closed the parkway down where I live (I think they closed it) so about 1/2 mile down the road, the lane to get on the parkway was closed, and there was a cop car sitting in the lane with the lights on. But this cop was just sitting in a grass field just standing there, wasnt really "directing traffic"

Re: I didnt get a ticket, but I have a question

it doesnt matter if a post is lame or not, he was jsut curious, so he asked. if you're not going to add something to the thread, please don't post.

And I'm not sure about the whole state cops have more power than local cops bit. It has to do more with jurisdiction than whether its state vs. local cops. the city is technically the local cops jurisdiction, and state police are almost always just for the highways/expressways. I would think it would come down to that since it was the local cops jurisdiction, and he waved you through, that it would end up fine.

BTW, what I always heard taught in drivers ed is that the word/direction of an officer ALWAYS supercedes traffic lights/signs.

Re: I didnt get a ticket, but I have a question

State police do have higher authority they can even pull over city police. They will not say anything about it though you were just following directions.

lucki17 he was just curious let him ask questions that is how people learn.

My post wasnt bullshit, yours is. You even said you were "going as fast as the other cars" well, obvously you wernt going the speed limit and they oulled you over.... good for you. Next time, remember to only go 11 mph over the speed limit.

No, I didn't read that. And, I don't know anyone who goes the speed limit. All I know is that I an't get caught goin over 26 mph... which I probably wouldnt do.

after you start driving for like a year or so then you will probably go faster than 26 over on freeways, its just a force of nature i guess, oh well.

Re: I didnt get a ticket, but I have a question

My thoughts on the original question: If a cop tells you to do something, like go, then you do it otherwise the cop could give you a ticket for not following his/her direction. This all comes with common sense of course, if a cop tells you to drive into a ditch then it would probably be better to not do so.
