Alternator problems

some one plz help when i turn on the car it will stay on for a min or two but slowly dies in mins, and the ground wire on the Alternator gets red hot and starts to burn. some let me know what the hells going on.

Remove the alternator and bring it to an alternator rebuilder to have them test it for an internal short, etc. Or you can also bring it to Pep Boys or other auto places that provide free testing. I figure the alt was running fine and this started happening? If the alternator was replaced and this was happening, make sure it was wired properly. ( Get a wiring diagram.) Also, make sure you are not over-drawing on the alternator. If you have a huge sound system and a stock alternator, the alternator is going to work overtime to supply power and burn up quickly.
