h22 accord

ok, i searched all the forums for this, but failed to come to a conclusion. i am installing an h22 (5 speed) in my 94 accord (automatic tranny) by the end of summer. these are the parts that are coming from the donor:

•Motor

•Transmission - 5SPD Manual

•Engine Wiring Harness

•All required Cables

•ECU ODB - 1 P13

•Distributor

•Throttle Body

•Clutch

•Fly Wheel

•Injectors

•Intake Manifold

•Exhaust Manifold

•Starter

•Alternator

•A/C

•Power Steering Pump

•All Brackets and Sensors

Now, i NEED to know what else i am going to need to install this mother completely. and yes, im talking a/c and all. i mean EVERYTHING in complete working order!

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I will be trying to accomplish the same task here myself in a couple of weeks in my 96’ Accord. I’ve been doing a lot of research the past year, so I will share with you what I have learned. I’ll give you some helpful links as well. This may be a little lengthy… anyone else that can add to this… the more I learn as well.

First thing you want to do is pick up a pair of either Haynes, Chilton, or Helms manuals for both your 94’ Accord and the year prelude motor your have (ex. 85-94 Prelude or 97-01 Prelude). You will definitely need this. I would hope that you have an Accord one already. As far as wanting to know “EVERYTHING”? Well I would consider NOT doing or having any of the following to be plain dumb and a waste of time and money.
  • Timing and Balancing Shaft Belts (replace)
  • Water Pump (replace)
  • Pickup a “Engine Gasket Kit” basically everything seal from the head up to the intake and exhaust manifolds.
  • While you got the head apart, might as well get or do a port and polish job. Ah hell do it yourself!
  • Thought about changing your clutch… get it now then! Drive axles suck enough to do once!
  • Check your CV Joints
  • 17mm magnetic oil pan bolt (this will give you a heads up if something bad is about to happen!)
  • The basic tune-up (spark plugs, probably wires, distributor cap, rotor, PCV valve, etc.)
  • Run 93+ Octane before you do the swap (don’t have to, but definetly doesn’t hurt!)
  • Engine Hoist (rent it)
  • A Ball Joint Separator (rent it)
  • Air Tools are nice to have!
  • A couple of friends
  • A Garage (not your buddies driveway, this might take a couple of days!)
  • Alcohol or any other substance that keeps you from reality

You should also correcting the autotensionser problem that supposedly exists on the H22 motor. Apparently these were poorly designed but can be fixed for about $150 with all Honda parts. There is a guy out there selling a walkthrough guide on doing a H22 swap into your exact year Accord. It’s at this site! He will tell you how to fix it. The more books, the better off you are. Definitely worth the $20.

You will also need the following from both motors
  • Prelude Drivers side mount
  • Prelude Cat, down pipe and header (Accord too short and headers won’t line up)
  • Prelude throttle cable and bracket
  • Prelude AND Accord PS line
  • Accord A/C bracket (use either compressor, whichever is in better condition)
Here some other links that you may want to read and check out!

I’m sure there’s things that I’ve missed, maybe someone else can add to it…. Hope I helped!
