Question What's best?

Hey guys I was wondering if you can help me out with some rumors. I need to change my spark plugs and wires soon. I'm a do it-your-selfer because I don't trust my dealer, and they overcharge. I heard that you can buy sparkplus specifically for your car but still get the engine light to go on with some of them (I've heard that BOSH do it). I've seen spark plugs from NEUSPEED, NGK, BOSH, HKS and the VW ones. My question is which one is the best one in quality and performance, what wires would I want to go with? Can someone help me out so that annoying light won't come on. One more question; Does anyone have a ODB II, VAG-COM or a Diagnostic Palm (DTC) reader, that you would reccomend? I need to get one. The back of EUROPEAN CAR magazine is helpful but first hand experience would be best.

Re: What's best?

I've not had any problems with a good quality non-OEM plug, Bosch or NGK. I think later model VW's tend to set codes no matter what you put in and it's mainly coincidence. I use both a VAG-COM and a generic scanner (OTC Genisys). Even with the European package the OTC cannot perform all the functions of the VAG-COM. If you're only interested in VW go with VAG-COM, it's less than 1/20th the cost of a good generic system. As with any scanner it is only part of what you need. Get a Bentley manual to go with it.
