Power windows won't work
I just got an 86 325 and I have no manual, just wondering why the power windows won't work, is it a fuse or what? I was told there is a button on the dash that resets the circuits but that button is missing, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Re: Power windows won't work
check fuses first and if good check for power at the switch

You may have to remove your door panels to access the motor units. Check for power to the motor; in none, check the individual switches. If there's power to the motor units, try 1. replacing it with a salvage yard motor. 2. Remove it and see if it is merely 'stuck' with dried out grease.
I had the same problem and finally fixed it this moring on an 80 528i and whaddya know? The window works! Have fun... |

Re: Power windows won't work
Replace the circuit breaker, if the button is missing... It's only about $35.00.....

Re: Power windows won't work
All those problems could be a combination of problems but most likely as you mentioned electrical, it could be the switches (had the same problem with a window switch that wouldn't roll up the window all the way), the locking problem i think because of a lock control module (small computer box) it can be located in several places (driver door/under glovecompartment) I say check with a dealer for that specific vehicle.
But in overall i think you need a electrician more than a mechanic :S |

Re: Power windows won't work
I would take it to a dealer and let them look at it. There would be about an hour diagnostic time but at least you would know what you're dealing with. My first thought was the bmw window regulator. This would also make me think it is an electrical problem, or a combination of both....
Don't play with the button, switch may be affected. Take it to the dealer first. Goodluck! Last edited by AudioGuy93DelSol; 07-20-2007 at 02:59 AM. |
