Question How can I tell a R33 GTR from a Vspec???

Sorry for another question already (being a newbie and all), but I really need to know how to tell apart an R33 GTR from an R33 GTR VSpec.

You see, it looks like I am going to have to buy a car based *solely* on pictures (yeah, I know - very risky). But I want one so bad, that I am willing to do that.

So, photos of what parts of the car will help me know for sure what I am getting? Any distinguishing body parts?

Also, is it possible, to have a VSpec *without* things like power mirrors (1996)???

Thanks!

here are some pics that I was given...

Here are some pics that I was given, but unfortunately they are quite low-res.

I want to know what else to ask the dude selling the car to photograph...

As you can see, the VSpec sticker is missing....
BTW it is supposed to be a '96 GTR VSpec

Is this the correct interior? The steering wheel looks different from other GTRs..

Thanks for the help

hi there, here is an old post of mine.

I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A COURT CASE HERE IN AUSTRALIA REGARDING MY R33 GTR , THIS WAS SOLD TO ME AS A V SPEC, IT ISN'T AND I AM SUING THE DEALER THAT SOLD IT TO ME, SO LET ME TELL YOU, I NOW KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A V SPEC AND A STANDARD GTR BECAUSE THE PROOF WILL BE USED IN COURT.

R33 SERIES: MECHANICALLY THEY ARE IDENTICAL, SAME POWER AND TORQUE, SAME BRAKES, WHEELS, INTERIOR, BODY ETC ETC ETC.

STD. GTR - REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS LSD (LIMITED SLIP DIFF)

V SPEC - REAR DIFF IS ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED, SO DRIVE IS CONTROLLED NOT JUST FRONT TO BACK BUT ALSO SIDE TO SIDE.
AS SOMEONE ELSE SAID ABOVE, THE COMPUTER WORKS FASTER TO SENT THE TORQUE TO THE FRONT.

AIR FENCES ATTCHED TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION DIRECT COOL AIR TO THE FRONT BRAKES.

ON THE DASH IS A WARNING LIGHT " A-LSD" THE TELLS YOU WHEN A PROBLEM ARISES WITH THE COMPUTER.

V IS LOWER AND FIRMER SUSPENSION.

above all check the rear diff, cooling fins signal a v spec.
also a "Q" in the chassis number signifies a standard gtr.

regards adam.

feel free to email me if you want for any more info.

also if u dont want things like elec mirrors etc get a LM , rare but lighter than standard. steering wheel in your photo is a 1997 spec one, if the seats have red stitching too then the car is a 1997 model.

oh by the way TAT11 my NON v spec had the boot sticker!
don't get caught like i did .

Thanks Adam.

I just sent you an email through the forum email system. If you don't get it please tell me.

Sucks that there are shady dealers, but unfortunately it is the truth of life.

The reason I was asking about power mirrors, was that this specific car, had all power options but power mirrors, and it seemed suspicious to me that basically the top-of-the-line GTR VSpec came without this common option (pretty much a standard nowadays..)

If anyone has anything to add, please do so!

If I have enough info, I will post it on my website for future reference for other people (with Credit given to the senders of course).

Thanks,
Guy

:-) That's a good question! Quite honestly I don't know. I noticed that they were missing too, when I was comparing other pics of skylines.

That kind of stuff makes me nervous. If obvious stuff like gauges are mssing, then who knows what other fiddling has been done in the car...

Unless the gauges were some sort of option.. but I highly doubt that!

By looking at the pics, this car is supposed to be equipped with power retractable mirrors, and the buttons at the right of the steering wheel shows that. If the buttons don't work, it might be just a burnt fuse or burnt motor. Make sure it is working.

And the meters at the center dash are standard on all GTRs, don't buy the car without it.

Thanks for the info YCEE.

It feels so frustrating not knowing such simple details about Skylines...
I concentrated too much on my previous car. Didn't really ever even consider that one day I could get a Skyline.....

Hopefully, once I have my hands on one, I can help with knowledge sharing too.

I really appreciate all the guys that replied, thanks.
