Can you help me build a 1G Turbo Oil Feed Line?
I've got a leak on the oil feed line from the banjo fitting at the cylinder head. I hate aluminum parts, and it seems that I've stripped out the threads. From what I understand the factory oil feed line is junk anyway, and I want to block the outlet at the head and install an oil feed line that runs directly from the oil filter housing like the one in the following links:
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/i...ineinstall.htm http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW Problem is, I'd rather make the line myself than buy one from someone else. From the looks of things, there doesn't seem to be anything special in this set-up. Why can't I get any of these parts from some brake shop or other sort of hydraulic shop? Thing is, I don't exactly know what I need. Especially in the fitting that screws into the oil filter housing. So, by the looks of things, I need three things: a banjo fitting on one end, a braided oil line with compression fittings on either end, and some sort of elbow fitting on the other end. Problem is, there are several types of elbows. Which type do I need? One side of it needs to have compression fittings to screw into the line. How about the other end of the elbow, the one that threads into the oil filter housing? Looks like the same type of end as on, say, universal air fittings or something like that. Just an open end, right? How about the line itself? How much pressure does it need to withstand? And how big should the line be? Same size as the factory line that runs from the head? Any other information that you can think of? Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jon P.S. If you think that building my own is a bad idea and you think I should just break down and buy one, don't be afraid to say that, either. |

Re: Can you help me build a 1G Turbo Oil Feed Line?
Remove the plug in the filter housing, should be pointed out somewhere in RREs instructions for installing thier feed line. Get a 3/8th NPT to 4 AN elbow. The thread in the hosuing is actually 3/8th BSP, so if you can find that use it instead. Very rare in this country though, used by just about every other country in the world though (japanese, british, etc). www.mcmaster.com may have them. Then make up a 4 an line of the proper length, straight hose ends on either end. Then you need the banjo to 4 an fitting used in those kits. Measure the inside diameter of one if you have it, or measure the diameter of the banjo bolt. www.anplumbing.com has a good selection, but they can take some time to ship.
Anplumbing has a lot of parts but can take forever. Same for baker precision. Try to order everything from summit. Typically you have to find the manufactures part number (an plumbing can sometimes be helpeful here, or check out the site for earls, aeromotive, etc) then plug it into summits manufactures search function to see if they carry it. Pain in the ass, but well worth it! I make all my own lines, no reason why you cant do this one. And I applaud you for doing so. But the feed line kits should only be about 50 bucks, and there is no shame in making better use of yuor time and money by buying a kit. You wont save much to make your own, I do it only because I have to.
