Question 2.2L oil pressure

Hello,

I have a 96 2.2L manual trans. that I have replaced the water pump on. Since that point forward, my oil pressure will start off at 75 to 80 and drop down as low as 20. It even has started to bogg down a little in all gears. Did I do something when I changed the water pump? Maybe I did something wrong when I put the belt back on? Please help!

Thanks alot

You are not alone. I have a 96 S10 2.2 with 137K miles, oil changed religiously (only used Mobil 1) and I have the same issue. Pressure starts at just above 40 psi when the engine is cold but when it gets closer to normal operating temp, the pressure drops below 20 psi and the check guages light comes on. I have not driven it for a couple of weeks because of this and am looking for a posible answer or at least a place to start. I have been told everything from the oil pressure switch to the oil pump to bad bearings could be the cause (none of it a cheap fix but the pressure switch is just under $30). Hope to find a fix soon because I'm getting tired of driving the Big fuel hog F350.
