Door lock not working with key
I have a 95 grand am SE and I cannot get the driver side door to open with the key. I can put the key in the lock but it will not turn at all so I always have to unlock the passenger side door and manually unlock the driver side so I can get in. I went to a dealership and they didn't even look at it but they said it probably needs a whole new lock put on it and it was like $150 to get it replaced, but I am not gonna pay that much for something like that. Does anyone have any ideas for me so I can fix this on my own?

Re: Door lock not working with key
On our 1994 Pontiac Grand AM, I have to turn the key to the left first and then turn the key to the right to unlock it.

Re: Door lock not working with key
WD-40 or they make a lock lubricant thats weather proff/ freeze resistant. So 3in1 light oil works also.

The drivers side lock on my 95 was damaged by a repo man, something to be said about buying a repo. What I did was go to the junkyard, buy a set of locks from another grand am with keys and changed them, cost me $10 and a couple hours work.

Re: Door lock not working with key
Repo man used a slimjim and knocked a rod off.
Depending upon what part of the country you live in will determine what type of lube to use. Always lube your locks twice a year and never only have 1 key. Im a locksmith and a $2 key is alot cheaper than having me come make a key for a min of $75 |
