Angry Track Times

First off let me say this: Tuning is everything with the Evo. I went to Speedway this week, and I was sorely disappointed with my time slips. I wish I could claim driver error, but I can't. This was my best time slip from Saturday.
R/T .638
60' 2.022
330' 5.807
1/8 8.992
mph 77.98
1000' 11.736
1/4 14.057 @ 95.82
I'd like to say a nice farewell to Al, aka dynoflash tuning. I met another guy at the track that had his custom tune, and he even stated that his car was hitting a brick wall after 5500 rpms. I believe that Al's dyno tuning makes the seat of the pants feel great at low rpms (3500-5000 rpms, and then the car just nose dives). My car was trapping higher and faster bone stock. All I can say is that you win this round Jeff's sleeper, but i'm coming back in a very serious way. Can you say goodbye dynopuke, and hello vishnu xede remapped ecu. When all is said and done my next track visit will have to speak for me. Hopefully some sunoco fuel will be attainable by my next track visit.

Honestly those are some very shocking times for an EVO, even an old RS Evo I was better

I agree tuning is 90% of the game the rest is supporting gear. From what you've discribed it sounds like he's/they've pulled a lot of timing out in the upper rpm range for some odd reason. It could be they were detecting a slight amount of detination or something they though was detination, I honestly don't know.

well one of the explainations for your poor time is becasue your running crap california gas. and also getting a dyno flash mailed by big AL is like me getting a JWT tuned ECU sent in by mail. the reason why your not getting good results is becuase he has to be very conservative with tuning your car esp since its running only 91 octane gas. from the people who actually went and put the car on his dyno and gotten the ecu tuned like that, and they were bone stock with just the dyno flash, they were running low 13's to high 12's. and people with mods like yours with the dyno tuned dyno flash were in the mid 12's. we also know 2 people in person who has the evo tuned by big al and they all put down 300-350 whp. i'm telling you the gas and the being tuned on a actual dyno makes a big difference.

Too bad about your times...hopefully with the lead on a new way to get the car tuned, you'll be able to run some numbers that are more to your liking.

Good luck!

Well actually I don't know what Al is saying. I don't want to give out the guys name that I met at the track, but he had Al custom tune his car, and he even stated that Al's tuning sucks. He's payed about $1K for Al's tuning, including obviously dyno time. He originally ran a 14.1 sec. 1/4 mile when he got there. Later on he ran a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile at 101 mph. This was on 100+ octane, 3" turboback exhaust, manual boost controller, AEM cold air intake, and a few other odds and ends. This guy just ordered the AEM unit, and let me tell you he was cool as fuck. He gave me a lawn chair to sit on and a tent to avoid the sunlight. Most of the Vishnu cars are running alot faster, and for future reference my car was trapping at 99 mph before the dynoflash. In short I don't care which way you slice it, the car should be faster, and not slower from a tune. I do appreciate the feedback though.

that does seem rather odd to me. but you did run it with a g-tech before to get those times. why not try to do the same test with the g-tech after the dyno flash?

Re: Track Times

Well the gtech unit I used before is the Gtech Pro Competition. I use to have the old designed gtech, and let me tell you it was off by about 3 mph. The new one my friend asserts is dead on, and he has been a street racer for about 5 years now (He also has one of the fastest LS1's on LS1.com~ he's in the 11 sec. club). He has tested it repeatedly, and it has been dead on accuracy wise. He said the mph is probably 1-2 mph off. The weather was cold at night, and the wind was non existant. Secondly most stock Evo's trap around 98-103 mph. 95 mph is totally inacceptable. I know 91 octane plays a part, but not that much of one.

Re: Track Times

Before I forget though, as bad as my track times were, there were far worse. Almost all the STi's were running 14's, including one that ran a 14.8 sec. 1/4 mile. It was not really a good showing for the STi community.

at the same track you were at? cause if they were, then if you put your car in comparison to theirs then your car is faster then stock.

Actually all the evo owners i've come across have stated that they always see slower time slips for STi's. I have no reason to doubt them based on my experience at the track. Heck now that I think about it the Viper boy's were not representing at all. They were trapping at 112-117 mph, but they were only running 13's. No matter, I just wasted a busload of cash on a Vishnu stage zero package. It should put me in the 13's for sure.

Denom,
The air at Speedway just plain sucks. You got an 1100' altitude with temperatures in mid-90s (at least). I couldn't make it out this weekend but last time I was there (5/29) the best trap I could get was 104.27mph.

Running the exact same mods at Carlsbad, I trapped 107.67 the following week. That's 3.4mph due to weather and altitude alone. It sounds like it was hotter than hell Saturday to keep STIs and EVOs in the 14s and Vipers in the 13s.

I think you need to go to the 76 on Arroyo Parkway go half 91 and half 100 on the gas, and then drive down to Carlsbad. Sounds to me like the tune you got expects 93 at a minimum and the conditions at Speedway were giving you a lot of KR.

Just my $0.02. I know how frustrating it can be to not get the results you were expecting. Let me know if you want to take a trip down there.

Re: Track Times

Hey Danno SS, I met 1Sweet00SS down there. His SRT-4 is sick. He was running low 13's. His SS was running consistant 12.002 passes. He seemed to be just shy of 11's. I plan on going there next week. The new tune is suppose to be good for 275 whp+, depending on what form of octane rating I use. I'll run your SS then. It should make for a close run.
