Rough Idle with A/C

When the A/C engages, my 1988 Jeep Cherokee 2.5L TBI is on the verge of stalling, then slowly resumes a more normal idle speed, albeit rough. Any help would be appreciated. I just replaced the EGR, because the Jeep was idling rough all the time, now it's just with the A/C on.

Possibly related: There is a clicking as if a solenoid/switch is activating coming from the passenger side under/around the dash area, and the A/C clutch seems to engage/disengage 2-3 times just sitting at a red light.

I think what you are talking about is some what normal. I have a 4 litre and it slows and you can tell the conditioner is on. I have the clicking as well. Is it a constant tick with the engine running or a cycle? As far as coming on 2 or 3 times at a stop light, I think mine does it and has since new. Its a '98.

Talking Follow Up

All fixed. Intake/exhaust manifold gasket was torn. I replaced that and no more rough running at idle or with the AC on. The huffing stopped too. I had to have the catalytic converter back replaced because it burned up from all the unburned fuel making it down there. Hope this helps.
