Exclamation 98 Sunfire GT Transmission problem

Why there is no dipstick beats the hell out of me. Maybe... no not maybe but rather "IF THERE WAS A DIPSTICK" I could check the level and know when to top it up or if there was a leak or more noteworthy if the fluid level has anything to do with my problem. Had to get that out.
Tranny is now banging (not too hard but noticeably) into gear from park to Reverse or Drive.
Starts out fine.
But then feels like it is not kicking in but at the same time it doesn't feel like there is any resistance the way a car feels when you leave it in 1st gear.
I have no choice but to at least throw in some fluid.
Please advise and thank you in advance.

Re: 98 Sunfire GT Transmission problem

Mine did that a few times.

I have a 2000. First time it happened was b/c we had forgotten to plug an air sensor back in. If you've not messed with your engine lately, I would suggest the fluid. It took us awhile to find where to put it, lol. It's WAY down there and hidden. My car makes a funny noise when in reverse and sitting still b/c the motor rocks on the mounts, hitting my transmission. In drive, it won't do it, the motor moves the other way. If that's your problem, it really can't be fixed. If you replace the motor mounts, they'll keep doing it. Last resort, if you bought the car used, it might just be the tranny itself. Most tranny shops will give you a free estimate or try to tell you what is happening, so if none of this helps, you can try them.

Thumbs up

Took it to AALLTrans in Vancouver BC Canada. What a rip off! They could not read anything on the diagnostics so they said 267.00 just to drop the tranny then plus plus plus plus for everything they try. If we decide not to pay for whatever they found wrong... it would be another 267.00 to put it back on. MY GOD!!!
Took it to Stan's Transmission at 1111 Kingsway Ave. and they were awesome... the guy let me watch him do the diagnostics. The readings were really wacky he said. Could not pinpoint the problem. Jim said, leave it with us for a couple of hours and by then we should at least be able to know what the problem is because the diags were inconclusive. Well 217 dollars later we picked her up. Problem was the wires from the computer to the solenoids were frayed. AALLTrans..... kiss my ass. I might look like a sucker but I am not.
Thankya... thankya very much.
