Re: Stemcell research

like anything else, people should be free to do as they please as long as they are responsable and dont infringe on another persons freedom to do as they choose

Re: Stemcell research

i think they should definitely do the research, because it could be a great benefit to human kind. but, they should impose restrictions on it, to control some severe consequences that could result from misuse or abuse of the technologies. yes, definitely they should do the research. mankind has never advanced without the courage of individuals.

Re: Stemcell research

i believe itz based on a persons ethics and religious beliefs...and accoding to the laws in which the governments recognizes the fetus as a human being...

i believe all that determines if it is allowed

Re: Stemcell research

I think that it is important to proceed with stemcell research as it has great potential in the medical field.

Re: Stemcell research

I as well agree, that the research should go forward. That is " SCIENCE " and with science mistakes are made, but with mistakes, there are as well great breakthroughs.

If this research will help, then I say do it. I just hope when I get cancer, the research will be advanced enough to save my life.

Re: Stemcell research

I think it should happen, but that it should be regulated. There is always someone who will push to far for the sake of profit.

Frankly, I never thought that it should be done, until I found that my mother had MS. I know that it sounds rather selfish, but I'll admit to being ignorant until the issue hit home. If nothing comes of it during her lifetime, there is hope that something good will come of it to help someone else's family.

Re: Stemcell research

The problem with developing genetic cures for diseases of all kinds is simple. If disease were eliminated from humanity, the world would quickly become overpopulated. Average life expectancy for humans is somewhere between 60 and 70 if I'm not mistaken. Imagine if we could use stem cell reserach to increase life expectancy to 90, or 100, or 110. Due to lack of death, the world would become even more severely overpopulated in a matter of a few decades. Why do you think aids and cancer haven't been cured? It damn sure isn't due to lack of funding or technology. The fact of the matter is that disease and genetic flaws keep the population relatively balanced. Also, everyone knows that cigarettes kill. The government taxes them in order to act like they give a shit and to receive funding. If they did indeed feel that smoking had a negative effect on the big picture, it would have been banned long ago.

Re: Stemcell research

I'm for it, but it's kind of scary the kind of things this will open the doors for. I remember hearing from a documentatry on this that someday we might have clones used for spare body parts!

Re: Stemcell research

Absolutely. I think that research into stem cells is the biggest secret behind finding cures for many diseases. Most diesease result from a deficiency of a certain type of blood cells, and that continues the downward spiral depleting those cells even further. Stem cells are very important because they are where all blood cells reguardless of type come from.

You make it seem that there is some king of governing body stopping the cure to be found. That I find hard to believe. I do believe we have doubled our life expectancy in the last 1000 years, whos to say that we can't live twice as long as we currently do in another 1000 years. Seeing someone you know or love in pain or dying is rough and if it happens to you or someone you care for close to you going through the pain, knowing that through the research a cure can be found but wasn't is down right inhumane.
