Won't start, just clicks, then starts later
I have a ? I have a 1992 ford aerostar, In the winter it did this real bad. You will go to start it and it will just click. The battery is showing full charge, and all the lights, radio etc.. work. You can come back 2 hours later and it will start. And it won't do it again for months, or a couple of days later. It has started again, and now it has been doin it allot. After it was doin the "click" thing, I went back, it started.... and then it acted as if the battery was dying. Like it was having a hard time to start. And after the 4th time trying to turn it over, it acted as if the battery was completely dead. Just click!
Someone said that it sounded like the battery so I changed them out, and it stoped it for about 2 weeks, and now it is doin it again. I have read that if it is making the click noise that it isn't the starter, is this true? And I don't think that it is the alternator, or the battery would actually be dead. I don't have a clue as to what is wrong. Has anyone had this prob before? Could it be the solenoid, or some relays or something? I am trying to find something, my van in about 30 miles away, in the next town. Where i couldn't get it started yesterday. Thanx for any help or advice in advance. |

Fixed
if anyone else ever has this issue, I got mine fixed. Turns out, that it WAS the starter. I find it odd that none of you could tell me that it was the starter. Thanx for nothing.

I just joined, so forgive me. My old car (a Ford, also) and my husband's Aerostar both had this type of problem within the past couple of years. If it happens to do this again, check the starter solenoid switch. This part costs about $10 - $15, and it's took me 10 minutes to install, mostly because I had to sift through my husband's tools to find a socket that fit.
