98 Grand AM Problems Key Release

I have a 98 Grand Am V6 2.4 lt--------

I bought the car about 3 months ago and about 31 days after I bought it...(30 day warranty) I started having problems with the Key release. I would put car in park then would not be able to turn key all the way back to get it released. --(notice that when it would release I would here a click from ignition)--. This would happen maybey twice a week, but steadily became more and more frequent. Now before I turn off Car a say a prayer for the CLICK. Well Yesterday when I got home from work I didn't here the click so I left the key in the ignition --(usually after about ten to five minutes It would release the key)-- . Well friends came over got a little drunk and about 4-5 hours later remembered I left the keys in the car. So I pull them out. Got up the next morning for work and went to turn on the car and it acted like the Battery had died. But I still get lights and radio when I turn the key to the on Position. It also sounds as if it want to try to start but, the car is not attemting to turn over. Like everything is working but no engine/starter action. I have read a couple forum entries concerning the securty system issues. COULD IT BE THE SECURITY SYSTEM HAS BEEN ACTIVATED? or COULD IT JUST BE I DRAINED THE BATTERY BY LEAVING THE KEY IN IGNITION?
Any help would be greatly appritiated!!

Sighned

I just recently bought a Grand AM 1998 coupe used. it had the same problem, the guy I bought it from told me how to get around it.
What you do is, underneath the steering wheel there is a hole with a button that you can press backwards, just hold it down and you can then move your key all the way back.
