Unhappy Help !!!....

Im wondering if there is a way to get the codes from my car (97 Grand- Am 2.4) My engine light stays on and it runs like crap! I know you can use a paper clip on the Camaro/Trans-am's just wasnt sure if there was a way to do it to the Grand-am ???????? and also if there is a way..where can I go to see what that code is for?
ANY HELP is much appriciated! thanks in advance...

goto autozone and ask them for a code key and a code book they will tell you how to do it

funny you should say that...cause thats just what I did,an they tryed 2 different scanner tools and neither would even come on!
they claim its my car thats not letting them work,and I kinda have to believe it when they tryed 2 different ones,I dont know what the hell to do...but my engine light and ETS light is on and when I hit any grade/hill in the road it doesnt want to down shift..it hitches etc.

you have an OBD 2 computer, just get a scantool that supports OBD 2. The paperclip method only works with OBD 1 computers

yeah I figured that one out...and that sucks but anyway when they did hook up the scanner they didnt work at all! achievasc92 do you know why that would be?????? thanks

I don't know why? should work, certain 94s and 95s can only be read at the dealer, but thats because it was during the transition phase between OBD 1 and 2, by 97 the transition was over so there shouldn't be any problems. strange.
