3.0 Whipple supercharger

so my friend told me about the Whipple supercharger for the ranger 3.0....I was siked...than I found out that they only posted it for 2002-2004 rangers with the vulcan engine. So this is my question, a 1999 ranger with Flex fuel 3.0 (V code) (Is it a vulcan? i think so.) engine... do you guys think that it could be put on to a '99.... maybe would involve some custom work/parts?

i dropped a line to the people @ whipple and here's what i got

No sorry will not work with your application because the flashing and calibration that goes into the factory ecm and the egr assembly of the truck will not adapt to it

Re: 3.0 Whipple supercharger

Well that's a VERY simple fix... Get a dyno tune from a real TUNER (not a tooner).

ANYTIME you do Forced Induction or a Power Adder in general, you NEED a dyno tune and by someone who REALLY knows what needs to be changed and how to do so properly (there are truely only about 5 people in the WORLD that do) in a Ford vehicle.

Here are some contacts for you, they ARE the best of the best....

ok, that makes sense to me (the concept), but what is "flashing" and what is the ecm (I'm guessing the computer?)

Re: 3.0 Whipple supercharger

Most of the time its best to install a chip when you install a supercharger. A whipple can be installed on any Ranger 3.0 motor with the proper program.

I'm sorry but that is absolutely dead WRONG. It is NEVER "best" to simply use the chip supplied with the blower. It's a band-aid at best, meaning it should work ok, but it is VERY far from the BEST solution.

Now, if you like taking big risks, and don't mind grenading you engine, by all means go ahead. Proper computer "tuning" is a LOT more involved than burning a simple chip, and exponentially more complex with a supercharge installed. The ONLY people I would let "tune" anything I own, I listed above. Believe me, letting ANYONE else tune your vehicle is a major error in judgement.

Re: 3.0 Whipple supercharger

i have to agree with modmech. a blower creates enormous stress on your motor and the pressures in combustion chamber are that of a jet engine. the improper fuel air mixture will put holes in your pistons bigger than the ones in your pockets!!
