Just bought new headers wtf is this loud noise??
i just bought me a gsr completely stock. i installed dc headers and it makes this "go-cart"- like sound. is this normal? the headers WERE brand new, no grease spots inside or anything. also, from my cat all the way down is stock. is this probably why its making this ridiculous noise??will it stop if i keep driving it? anyone that has bought new headers please tell me if this has happened to you....

hey man...i kno exactly what the problem is. I just got new headers too. And for a while it sounded like a lawn mower. Can u smell carbon monoxide from under your hood? yea thats becuase ur gaskets have a leak in them! This creates a leak in ur headers causing the gases to sputter, giving that lawn mower sound. Just Replace ur gaskets (I did) and it'll purr again. But i have a question too! My check engine light turned on after my mechanic messed with my catalyic converter. He removed the 02 sensor at an attempt to install my racing cat. So is the computer suppose to fix itself? or is there something wrong?

Re: Just bought new headers wtf is this loud noise??
i just bought a 99 integra ls with a JDM conversion kit type R spoiler this sweet 17 inch wheels honda accord front end. anyway the first thing i ordered was a set of dc sport ceramic coated headers and aem ram air. this gasket you speak of, is it the same gasket that is included with your headers or was it the gasket that was originally in. I also have a question . as far as cat backs are concerned should i go with the dcs8008 i think or the apex gt spec or n1 all three i found for about the same price........
. suspension is also my next step and short shifters. Dc sports were all reasonably priced front and rearupper strut braces, rear lower, and suspension techniues sway bar kit, also dc sports short shifter all for 715 bucks any suggestions |

Do you mean you have a JDM front end conversion, that slightly resembles the old Accords, but actually is a JDM Integra front end? |

as far as that o2 sensor goes did your mechanic really just take it out? I wouldn't expect any good mechanic to do that. As far as the check engine light goes, it's never gonna go off until you get that sensor back in! besides, leaving it out robs your engine of hp and fuel efficeincy

I can only assume that this accord front end you speak of is realy a type r jdm front end conversion. If it is, the fact that you thought it was a accord front tells me you don't like it that much. If that is the case, would you like to sell it. I'd gladly give you my front end along with some $ for the trade. My front end is from a 2000 teg w/. the Type R front lip. Keep in mind we would just be trading fenders, not engines. |

what you need to do is go to Pep boys and buy the cheapest header gaskets you can find, but buy like 3 or so. most of the times the noise you hear is from the exhaust fumes escaping in between the headers and the engine block. Here's how to fix it. Go and buy "High Temp Silicone and sandwich 2 of those gaskets together with some silicone in between, before they dry up, add a lil bit of silicone to the face of the gasket, (the part that actually touches the engine block. Slap the gasket on and slide the headers over the gasket. If u did it right as you tighten down on the bolts, using the right pattern of course, you should see the silicone squeezing out from in between the gasket and the engine block. Wait until it dries up, ( i wold wait til the next day), and then using a blade, just cut the excess of the silicone that sqeezed out. I learned this trick while working on old RX-7's.

Re: Just bought new headers wtf is this loud noise??
I just replaced my header, and when I'm in 4th gear going like 35 mph and floor it, I get a weird sound. It kinda sounds like sand or rice being blasted through the header, kind of a hollow sound. It tends to go away in higher RPMs, and get less noticeable as the car gets warmer. Is this normal or is this what you're talking about? I can't really see there being a leak, but I guess it's always possible. I might just be paranoid, you either have to be outside the car, or have the windows open, or music down in order to here it. So, I guess I'm asking if this is normal, and if not what could it be?

the noise could be coming from the header where it bolts onto the cat. it's bolted on to the cat with 2 bolts that have springs around them. If these two bolts are not fastened enough, they can allow exhaust gas to escape which will create a hissing kinda sound. When i installed my headers they made a weird noise that i didnt like. it sounded like exhaust gas was escaping from somewhere. i tightened up these two bolts some more and the noise went away.
also make sure that the doughnut/ gasket thingy that goes at the end of the header is in good shape and not broken up.

Re: Just bought new headers wtf is this loud noise??
It sounds more like it's coming from the top part of the header instead of by the cat. I torqued all bolts to specification, so maybe it's normal. Is there any way the gasket could've gotten messed up, it couldn't have been bolted together if that gasket wasn't in the intended groove. kcap122, I caught the sarcasm with the rice, but is it actually normal to hear that sound?

Re: Just bought new headers wtf is this loud noise??
Have you considered the Skunk2 Cat-back. Racing exhaust system. Pretty sweet. Makes a good sound. Not one of those 20 dollar dirt bike ones. Its worth all the money.
