Just purchased a used 98 Taurus. The right front blinker lights are all out of wack. When the right blinker is used, the front right parking light blinks but it blinks twice as fast as normal. The right front turn signal light doesn't light up ever. Left side works great. All right side lights (when blinking) all blink twice as fast.
I checked voltage ohm and I'm getting just shy of 8v on both the blinker and parking light. (Blinker light's voltage pulses when blinker is on, but doesn't light up, only parking light lights up) Which makes me think they're shorted in series somewhere. Grounds are all the same and seem good, hot lead to these two connectors ohms closed. So that would also prove that the hots are shorted somewhere. Problem is where? I checked the wiring as far back as I can get under the hood. My question is, could this be the blinker relay, or the blinker assembly in the steering column? Or is it definately a wire short somewhere that I'll have to track down. I haven't opened up the steering wheel yet to check because I hate doing it. Any input is greatly appreciated since this car has to go through inspection soon. |

Re: Very odd turn signal problem
check all the bulbs on the side of the car with the problem i had the same problem with my 89 taurus
the turn signal bulb has two wires in it one blew out and cause the front bulb to blink twice as fast just replace the bulb that wont come on should solve your problem |

Re: Very odd turn signal problem
I would suggest a bad connector or body ground if the Bulbs check out good. If a blinker relay goes bad it will slow down as it warms up & possibly get stuck "on" or "off" and no longer flashes. Side marker lights will flash alternatly with the turn sig. this can be the cause in some cases.
