Is my Amp to powerful for my alternator?

Hey guys whats up?
I recently swapped out my old 520w Ultimate Amp and put in a brand new Sony 1200W Bridgeable 2-Channel MOSFET Amplifier with Variable Low-Pass Crossover.
A few days later, 2 odd things started going on with my car. First, which might be a totaly unrelated issue, the fuse for my Dash and Radio Illumination blew.. That was ok, i replaced it and it works fine now... But just yesterday as i was driving I saw my head lights dim, my volt metor go down from 14 to around 7, and the battery light came on. Now I havn't brought the car in to get looked at yet but it sounds to me like the alternmator died. The alternator in the car is a CS130D 105 AMP Alternator. The type of car it is in right now is a 1996 Chevrolet S10 Blazer With 4.3 Liter Engine.

I still have the stock radio and speakers in the car, with the addition of the Duel 12" Bandpass Subwoofer and that Sony 1200W Bridgeable 2-Channel MOSFET Amplifier that i mentioned above. That is the ONLY amp i have in the car.

Could this be the reasen why my alternator died? If so, is there any alternator i could order that i could put in the Blazer that can handle the extra wattage?

Thanks in advance!

your alternator is designed to provide enough current to keep the vechicle running and power and accessories...power windows..ac..so on. With a 105 amp alternator and a 1200 watt amp I would say yes to a new higher output alternator. I would also recomend a new battery and if possible an Optima or something simular. You can also do an upgrade people call the "big 3". It is enlargeing your factory power and ground wires on your battery and from alternator to battery. It is a good idea to that also.

you can do it in phases and the alternator would be a good start.

if it was a real 1200 watt amp you would be right about upgrading the alternator, but it's a sony 1200 watt amp, which means it's closer to 3-400rms

yea its sony.. it says 1200 watts.. but thats just the max wattage.. the rms should be between 300-500rms.. but you said bridgable... so im guess its not a class D.. well a 105amp alternator should be enough.. just upgrade the big 3 wires.. truthfully i haven't dont so.. so i can't tell you how.. but i hear from people that it works.. i have a 80amp alternator.. and my headlights barely dimmed with 700rms coming froma 4 channel fosgate amp.. as long as your car is on.. a little dimming shouldn't hurt too much.. when its idle the voltage may drop, and the lights will dim, but when your car is moving it should be able to handle it with no probs

Re: Is my Amp to powerful for my alternator?

i agree w/ PaulD (your amp shouldn't be stressing your 105 amp alternator - and it sounds like it 'started to happen' instead of happening right after the install...) - you might first want to make sure you have heavy enough power / ground wires (at least 8awg, pref. 4awg), and that the grounds are real clean (to bare metal)...
