Re: Cam Belt

its not the cam belt... its the timing belt and what you need to do is pull the tensioner that is located on the block right in front of the motor mount to loosen the belt... once that is off the timing belt will be able to slip right off the cam gears!

Re: Cam Belt

and why are you trying to do a head swap if you dont know how to get that off?? if i were you i would get someone that knows what they are doing before something gets fucked up!!! the head swap is not the easiest thing to do exspecially when you have to set timing (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE ELSE SET TIMING OR YOU WILL FUCK UP YOUR HEAD AGAIN!!!)

and stop posting a new thread everytime you have a question! its a waste of space.... since if you searched for it you would have found it!!! if you have a question from here on POST IT IN THIS THREAD... DO NOT... i repeat... DO NOT start another thread if you have a question! ask it in this thread!!!

Re: Cam Belt

I was jsut going to suggest the vfaq on tbelt job. BE SURE you and your dad fully understand what is going on there.

This may be the simplest and most basic tip anyone could ever give you on this topic, but the most valuable. In order for the tension to be right, the gap between the hydraulic tensioner body and the arm that swings with the tensioner pulley on it, MUST be between .15 and .18 inches for the gap to be right. You can douche this whole project 15 times over and spend 3 months on it, as long as in the end that gap is .15 to .18 inches

Any yahoo can set up the marks, but be sure all FOUR of the cam gear marks are lined up, or damn colse to it (mine always end up a touch below the straight edge at 3 and 9 oclock (center)), and pay attention to the part about how to properly phase the rear balance shaft. Its possible to have that mark lined up to the pointer, but its still wrong.

Enjoy the reading, its a long one... Good luck.
