Something I was told by a guy who runs a local shop. My friend's 2nd gen Teg has a 1st gen b16 swap and it's not as fast as it should be. I was told by this guy that auto b16's used a smaller cam and only put out about 140-150hp at the crank. Just wondering if it's true or not. He doesn't have an auto tranny, but I'm thinking it might be an LS tranny even though the papers say an engine and tranny swap. Just trying to figure out why it's so slow.
My friend has got his ass handed to him by two bone stock Integra LS's. I'm attributing it all to driver skill cause he really can't drive for shit, but he got walked by these cars.

Re: 1st gen auto b16 has less power than manual b16?
I've never seen any real proof of it, but thats what some people say.
Is he sure the car is running right? He'd know if he had an LS tranny, he'd have grocery getting gearing. |

Re: 1st gen auto b16 has less power than manual b16?
the automatic B16's only have single valve springs on both intake and exhaust cams, as well as weaker cams. they are made to have a lower rev limit, which was around 7500 if my memory serves me correctly. I had a friend with an automatic b16... he put in a "MUGEN SPOON NO REV LIMIT +20HP CHIP L@@K W@W" and revved it to 10k rpm (dumbass).
he broke one of the weak stock retainers, and dropped a valve into one of the cylinders at 10,000 rpm and completely destroyed the entire engine. |

Re: 1st gen auto b16 has less power than manual b16?
Ummm - there was no 1st gen auto gearbox in either the EF8/9 or the DA6 XSi. The second gen B16As did get an auto, but it made 150ps instead of 170ps (2G B16A) and the 160ps of the 1G. All 1G B16As put out 160ps, other than the Euro EE8/EE9 which made 150bhp. It was the 2Gs that made 170ps or 150ps (manual and auto respectively).
Note: please don't talk BHP when discussing JDM B16As, they are measures in ps which is slightly lower than their equivilent bhp. 91civicDXdude has all the right info about the autos though |
