My First Engine Swap
I Am looking to swap an engine into my 89' mazda 626, however i do have several concerns.
1. What is the most common engine that people swap to? 2. I want to know what engine has the greatest aftermarket following, that way I can pump it up once i put it in. 3. When swapping,what concerns should i have custom fabricating engine mounts that bolt into a unibody. Are there engine bay wall strength concerns? 4. I'm new at this so don't flame me. Can you turbocharge a vtec engine? Thank you very much

I suggest that you skip the swap. It would be very expensive. If you want boost, I believe that Thomas Knight produces superchargers for your car at www.boosthead.com

if you have your heart set on an engine swap. You must also have your heart set on spending money. ECM/PCMEtc will have to be changed. Wiring harness will have to be changed. Motor mounts/tranny mounts location. If the motor does sit differently it can affect your cars geometry in terms of suspension travel/ride height. There will be fuel delivery concerns. What type of connections does it have now, how will the new engine need to be fed. The in take fuel pump, may not pump out enough gallons per hour to feed the new beast. Cooling, if you are going to put a "bigger" engine in, or one that is known to run hotter, or if you are going from something with lots of aluminum to something with lots of iron you will have coolling issues. I radiator upgrade, maybe better water pump etc may be necassary. Also probably going to have to say bye bye to a/c. There are some many things to take in to consideration this probably doesn't even break the ice (i didn't even get into exhaust bleh). But if you do decide to go that route, i hope you can make it work, just be patient, and always take a step back and look at it objectively if you get stuck.
