Quick Question Regarding Speaker Wiring.

I just hooked up a couple new 6 1/2s in the front door to replace the factories in my Xterra. SOmething wierd happened that I have never seen before...

When I try to hook them up again they make a popping noise and the speakers just push out a little bit but there's no sound. Has anyone seen this before? The odd thing is that the left side is working fine it's just on the front right.

And the speakers all work fine I tried them on the left side and they worked right away.

Very interesting.. any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Brad

sounds like youve got them hooked up backwards, or the wires touched and you blew them.

on the bad side, the speaker wires may be shorted somewhere

Its not them being hooked up backwards, you can hook them up whitchever way you want, they will just be out of phase (witch isn't good, but they still act like speakers, and still sound normal.) What it sounds like you did was hook up a direct power wire to the speaker, if it bulges in or out and doesn't shake like a normal speaker, youv'e got it hooked directly to power. Assuming their in the stock position, I have no idea how this would happen, if some of the wires are frayed maybe, or if one of them was cut on something and is being powered somehow, your dash unit could be fried...

when testing the polarity of a speaker you can momentarily put a battery on the wiring. positive wiring will push the speaker out and reverse the other way. you're obviously getting a small constant voltage to your speaker it probably happened at the HU. it could be wired to a signal out or shorted to one
