2000 Sierra

I've got a few problems with my GMC... First off, I have had a few people tell me that there is a problem with my parking brake, and that it would cost around $900 to fix. All I know is that I have no parking brake pressure when I push the pedal, and they seem to rattle or squeak when turning corners. I was told this was pretty common in these trucks, but I haven't been able to find anything on it. I am planning on doing my brakes soon, and would like to get this problem fixed in the process. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Also, my fuel guage seems to have a mind of its own. It will sit at the right position for a while, but out of the blue, it decides to jump all the way to empty and stay there. It will bounce back and forth throughout my ride, and even while I'm just sitting still. I have no idea what too look for to try to get that fixed. I need some help.

First, there should be very little pressure at the park brake pedal - you should be able to push it to the floor with minimal effort. Does the parking brake hold?

With the rattle, I'm gueesing that the parking brake are a bit out of adjustment. They are very easy to adjust after the knuckle bashing of removing the rotors.
If you are planning to do the brakes, adjust the parknig brake at the same time.

Does it do it in Drive or in gear? If so your fuel level sensor is most likely the culprit. Have seen a couple bad gauges, but 90% level sensors.

There is no pressure at all on the pedal, and the parking brake doesn't hold at all. That is probably because there might not be any pad left on the shoes. I remember hearing a scraping sound for the longest time and was told it was because my e-brake shoes were riding on the rotor. It was supposedly a "design flaw", having something to do with some sort of clips within the e-brake setup. I had it checked out at a local brake shop about 7 months ago, so that's why I'm fuzzy on the details of what I was told.

The fuel guage jumps around in drive and in gear, or even when its in park just idling. Where would I look to find my fuel level sensor? There's probably no way for me to really check my existing sensor is there? Just replace it with a new one and see what happens?

I'm not sure if you'll find a sensor aftermarket, but they are relatively cheap at the dealership. (Don't let them B/S you that it is not available seperate from the fuel send module). I can get a part number for you if they give you the run-around.

I'm pretty sure that the level sensor swap is your issue, but you are right there really is no way to tell if that will fix it without doing it.

AS far as your brakes go, I think that you will probably need to get new parking brake shoes. They will come with a redesigned "clip" to install with them. Just be real careful removing the old screw that holds the clip down, they've been known to break. Just spray some penetrant on them and let them sit awhile before attempting removal.

I have a similar issue with my Fuel gauge on my 2000 Sierra. Mine will drop when I shift into reverse, even without the truck moving. I'll try the sensor swap and see if it helps. Thanks for the info.

Hey, I have the above problem. I cannot push the break pedal down at all so of course I have no parking brakes.
It came on gradually, getting harder an harder to push until now its just stuck in the full off postion.
