How do I get the molding off of a 2000 Desert runner bumper / so that I can paint it?

Whats up everyone...I hope someone can answer this...............okay, I would like to take the blackish molding off of my 2000 SE Desert Runner in order to paint it a deeper black , how do I get the molding off??? Any suggestions? ............thanks ......Silverman
