Fuel Question

Do any of you other late Lumina drivers get horrible mileage? Such as in the under 10MPG highway driving.

I ask because ever since I got my 99 Lumina, I noticed that my guage can go from F to E in way under two hundred miles. However, I've been driving on E in city traffic for the past 45 or so miles...think my sending unit is bad? I do. But its a four hundred dollar part from GM, which means its two hundred from NAPA which means its four hundred to have it installed

Any other tips on this?

We have lumina apv

gas mileage bites... There is a new fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires. next I may try the O2 sensor for better mpg.

Re: Fuel Question

Wow! You guys got something wrong!(duh)

I get high 20's on the highway, and probably about 18-20 on the street.

I think you are on the right track. O2 sensors and hogged air filters are known fuel mileage culprits.

I highly recommend the K+N panel filter. Doesn't cost much when you consider it is the last air filter you're gonna buy for it, and give a noticeable performance and mileage boost.

Re: Fuel Question

I think it is just a GM trait to have wierd fuel gauges. Every one I've ever had, when it shows half a tank, you can put in a few gallons and show full, but actually have to put in over half the capacity to top it off. And I'll run for days with the needle sitting on empty. I don't get scared until the needle starts bouncing. Then it's time to get some gas, or walk.
