paint for my car body

man... i use this forum soooooo much

so i was wondering wat kind of paint i could use to paint my car body. i read that laquers are good but i cant really find them. i kno two ppl recommended Al's Hobby Shop but i dont want to drive 1/2 an hour for paint. i go to Wal Mart sometimes and i was reading the FAQ, which said automotive paint was for painting bodies... so i just head over to the automotive department and pick out a color and some plastic primer? so i just use regular automotive spray paint right? and where would i pick up plastic primer if i go to Wal Mart?

pretty much every store i go to has enamel paint. i use it for all the small stuff but i heard its not good for bodies.

wats better: enamel or automotive paint?

Re: paint for my car body

Auto paint comes in multiple types. Enamels, Acrylic-lacquer, Acrylic urethane, and so on. I hate enamels. I have never painted a real auto with enamels and never will. Enamel never cures. It continues to cure over long period of time. Also if you apply a lacquer over an enamel you are in for a big problem.

The problem with just picking up auto paints at Wally World is they have varied types and do not say which is which. If you get an enamel base, and get a lacquer clear the enamel will cringe and your paint job is screwed up.

Re: paint for my car body

IMO acrylics are best. Tamiya makes excellent products if you look into their paint.

Re: paint for my car body

I know 1/2 hour drive seems stiff man but Im telling you Al's Hobby Shop has EVERYTHING. I dont seem why you wouldnt go.

Like mike said who knows what your getting at Wally World let alone their paint quality.

Another place I can suggest that sells Tamiya paints nearby is Walt's Hobby Shop on Rt 30(Dont tell me thats too far also!). Take it about half a mile south of Louis Joliet Mall. Hope this helps!

Re: paint for my car body

Just to give you an idea, you dont have it bad. If I need to go to a hobby shop I need to drive 45minutes.

Now see that makes more sense...but surely on of ur folks would drive if its only 30 minute drive.

Mike you think you got it bad 45 minutes. I gotta double that and drive to belfast just so I can get Tamyia paints in Ireland to to top that I gotta use Sterling instead of Euro....Yay going tomorrow, promised the fiance to bring her shopping in Belfast for her B'day...Hehe ulterior (sp) motives to go the hobby shop....

Oh I got 2 or 3 times a month, sometimes more. Half the time I dont need anything. My brother is a skate boarder and there is a huge skate shop about a mile or two down from the LHS so I just take him and go back to the LHS.

Ouch...Why not build an RC plane that you could sit on and fly in over to your hobby shop.

lol...could get my Uncle to build one, he has been building and flying them for years. Its not to bad, there is a new motorway being build should bring it down to about an hour. I can go to Dublin but that store doesnt stock Tamiya paints or materials. Apparently there is a huge tax on them and it wouldnt make it worthwhile for the shop owner

The sterling might weigh you down though
