V30DET info
Hey guys. I'm trying to find out some info on the VQ30DET, such as the strength of the internals, turbo specs, parts interchangability with FWD models, etc. Being in the states information on this engine is pretty scarce, so anything that you have to offer would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks |

Re: V30DET info
Internally, the motor is almost identical to the VQ30DE, wth the exception of 9:1 pistons(vs. 10:1).
The VQs have iron cylinder liners, and can take more abuse than you might think. There are street driven Maximas with internally stock VQ30DEs making 500hp. With just lower compression pistons, they could do a lot more. If you want to build a bigger version, use the VQ35 crank and rods. This will give you a 3.3L stroker. The compression ratio will be too high(in the 10s with a DET, 11s with a DE) for boost, so you will need new pistons to lower it. Another option would be using a VQ35 instead of the VQ30, because the VQ35's newer heads flow much better. The engine would also be easier to find. Look for an '01+ Pathfinder, '02+ Altima or Maxima in a junkyard, and you're set.

Re: V30DET info
Cool, thats exactly what I was looking for. Thanks VQuick. One of the reasons I was interested in the VQ30DET is that I found a complete front clip for $1500. I figured that the motor already being turbo prepped (i.e. lower compression pistons) and the fact that it came with a turbo and manifold added up to a pretty nice deal. Of course, I suppose I could always just just buy the manifold seperately. Are the VQ35 heads compatible with VQ30 bottom end?

Re: V30DET info
As for the VQ35 heads on a VQ30 block, that might be a little tricky. See, the VQ35 has continuously variable valve timing, aka CVTC. The VQ30 doesn't.
I just read about it at www.maxima.org yesterday, but I already forgot if someone said the swap would work or not. If you go there, you might be able to find that, along with much more stuff I didn't cover. Look for the users SR20DEN and SteVTEC. They'll forget more about the VQ than I'll ever know.hehe
