Angry 2001 Siverado Heater Core

Arg!

After a photographing a wedding in San Diego and heading towards the Dodger game last Sunday, my truck just had a strong whiff as if driving by a cow farm! So I though i stepped on some poo-poo and not a big worry.

I didn't realize it until the next day but my heater core for my 2001 Silverado V6 went out! i guess all that driving did it (90k).

Anyone have suggestions how to repair it? I am going to get the chilton book right now from AutoZone and a new OEM part for $85 (saved $50 over from a dealer).

Anyways, I know i have to flush my entire cooling system, is there anything that I have to watch out for that the book may not tell me? Any Mods that I can do since im doing this?

Also, out of the three cigerette adapters in the truck. only the left side works. Are there fusers within the element or do I have to rep lace the entire elements?

If any one can respond, that woujld be great. I am heading to Yosemite this weekend and need to get it done ASAP.
