Unhappy 87 Camry temp. gauge

Can anyone tell me how to fix the temp gauge on a 1987 Camry. When the ignition is turned on, the gauge immediately goes all the way to the hot side. It stays there until the ignition is turned off. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: 87 Camry temp. gauge

The sending unit is grounded. You can check the wiring but the unit will probably need replaced.

Can an aftermarket gauge be used, and if so, will any one work?

Don't change the gauge, change the sending unit.
