You will have to disconnect all the lines and flush them individually with A/C flush (available at parts stores). This includes the evaporator and condenser. Then blow them out then with compressed air. Be sure to use the correct R12 or R134 flush. You will also have to replace the receiver/drier and orifice tube. Be sure to add the correct refrigerant oil to the system before recharging. Time comsuming but necessary.

You might as well convert it to R134 after all that work. All that involves is new fittings on the hi and lo charging valves.

i didn't need to use any flush, cause i found 134a/oil made by id (interdynamics). it's made to convert over from r12 to 134a. it has 12oz of refrigerant and 3oz of oil combined together with o-ring conditioning, sealant and can be used in the system with residue or cleaned empty system of r12. thanks for all the information otherwise.

Re: 1991 buick park ave ultra's a/c

that is what is known in the industry as a death kit.

it will most likely cause the compressor to sieze.

your first problem is that you never removed the old metal particles from the system so they are clogging your condensor and and oriface tube so you will have a high side restriction which will cause the high side pressure to go thru the roof. also will block refrigerant from ewntering the evaorator so the system wont cool.

second, if you dont flush the old oil out, there will be too much oil in the system for it to cool correctly.

third, if you dont pull a vacuum and change the dryer, you have air and moisture in the system so it wont work too well. the pressures will be high and the cooling will be terrible (if at all. i suspect the oriface tube is blocked so you wont get any cooling)

finally, even if the oriface tube wasnt blocked, it is metered for r-12 and needs to be replaced with one for 134 to work as well as it should.

its called a death kit for a reason. do a search on "air conditioning death kit" and read what other say about it.

flushing the most important part. The oriface tube is a lung tubelike strainer with a fine screen in it. with metal particles in the system the will circulate and clog it. you need the flush to get them out.

if you dont believe me, ask these guys, http://www.aircondition.com/wwwboard/

they are VERY knowledgable
