The first year for the Z32 (1990) had some mechanical issues, avoid them if at all possible. The best years for the Z32 is 94 and 95, the last year for the States was 96 and the Z had lost its variable vavle timing due to emissions regs and was dropped entirely the next year. The loss cut 20hp to put it down around 280 stock.

As for being clueless, just start going to every Z site you can find

www.twinturbo.net is a great site to start with, read through their FAQ section, if can answer most of your questions.

That and browse through the first ten pages or so of this forum, there is alot of info here.

Good luck on the Z man. And remember, don't buy anything unless its exactly what you want.

everything broke said is exactly what you needed to know. but if you do find a '93 or '94 in good condition, don't hesitate to get one of those years either. just make sure you don't want any other car, because once you have a z, you won't want anything else.

I don't think the '90 is bad. As long as you keep them well maintained you won't have any problems and that goes for any year/car.

the 90 isnt bad it just has some minor bugs that had to be worked out as does all cars when new models come out...im my opinion any 300zx 91 or above is good

What I like about the 94-94s is that they cleaned the car up, removed the AIVs and a few other things...read about that somewhere no I can't find it...anyway...had the best standard options, the suede panels instead of the carpety stuff...just a higher quality overall. But as it was said, there isn't anything wrong with 91-95. 90 I would stay away from as I have heard enough bad things about first model year glitches and 96s...well we're all about power...anyway...96 a good year too other wise...

also 94-96 have the newer style injectors, old 555 nismo's go bad more often.
