Re: a sketch

Dude, still cartoony.

Check your wheelbase, wheel sizes, ground clearence, car height and other proportions. Still round lines, like the bottom window sill. Make the car longer in general. Once you have all of that down, you can start adding reflections and shading.

Re: a sketch

Maybe keep it cartoony.

I don't see many concept cartoons. You might be on to something there.

You know me You...??? I like the loose stuff.

Nice work.

I guess you could keep it cartoony. I've been trained to go for professionalism. The guys accepting work at ACCD and schools like that are looking for professionalism, all design ideas and stuff like that are all semi-realistic.

Re: a sketch

Ahh Ansisk has a point.

I'm not sure I would consider cartoon work un-professional but if you are going for ACCD or something like that sure. However if you want to work at Pixar or something......

It may be a matter of perspective but with so much conceptual work being produced using the same methods it's a very daunting task to stand out as an individual.

Take this site for example:

http://www.cardesignnews.com/portfol...n_pf_index.php

The work is unbelievable!! I am totally inspired by everything I see, but they are all very much alike in methodology. Maybe that's what defines that class of art, I don't know, but I do know that you can be You in any form You choose and still be a well respected, money making, professional automotive illustrator.

Oh Ansisk,

Please don't think I have anything other than the highest respect for you and what you do.

It's all good. I learn from your posts like I learn from Bonzelite, Al, Kartoonz, The uncomparable James Allen and everyone else. I apologize.

(My wife read the post and said I sounded like an a*s because I didn't add any emoticons (sp?) to convey the feelings behind the thoughts) Since I have to sleep with her I can't have her mad at me...she'll pull that cold feet move and ruin my night.

I plan on employing the techniques I learned from you in an illustration in the near future.

Don't worry man! I didn't take any offense from your posts!
There is only a small minority of car designers employed in the movie business. The guy who designed the batmobile, the Lexus for Minority Report, Herald Belker. You know what he started his career doing? Working for Ford, designing cars. I was just saying, if you're designing cars, I just generally thought you were an aspiring designer.

BTW, my new CDN 'folio is up:
