Question Any Mazda Experts - No go above 1100 RPM's

88 Rx7 NA -It starts a liitle rough- But ran fine- Now it will not rev over 1100 rpm when warm- Omhs check out on the coils and crank sensor- 45 psi on fuel rail- all plugs seem to fire ok-

Will not rev up - UnLESS I turn it off for a second - then I can REV it up one or two times- then right back to stopping at about 1100 ???

I'm kind of puzzeled ANY help ? I'm not real up on Mazda trouble shooting..

Many Thanks.

clean the connections on your TPS. If you look at your throttle body it is pushed open and shut by the mechanism that opens the butterflies. See if it is moving freely. I would say bad connection just because the car is doing nothing. The tps will normally act up before it goes out. Let me know if that helps. Start checking your sensors.

It will wind up fine when cold- but will start to sputter and die out at about 1100 rpm after I warm it up - But if I shut it on/off and restart it - it's ok for 2 or 3 seconds and it will rev normally.

Why it does that is this....... When you first start the car it is running theough the car making sure everything is ok and untill the car is warm it uses default settings untill the computer switches over to reading the signals and adjusting from the different signals. What your car is doing is when you give it gas one of those sensors is throwing up some really bad info or the computer is running with no signal at all. Since you haven't said you have recieved a check engine light that means that the sensor is putting out some bad info. So the computer is cutting off the gas, retarding the timing or is not reading any throttle imputs. If you floor the car does it die? Let me know a little more as to what it is doing. Does it choke, stumble or just stop at 1100. How is the car acting. Get under the hood and see if the afm is pulling back when you turn the butterflies. Look for any corroded wire. I would get some contact cleaner and just start cleaning your connections one by one.

Also, get a small piece of wire. By the battery there is a couple of green connectors. the single green connector is the one you want. Take the wire and jam it in there and ground it to the negative battery post. Then turn your car to the on position (do not start) and see if it throws you and codes by the check engine light flashing..... Post if it does anything

Yep - it dies if I give it any gas - stumbles or chokes out - Like its out of gas/air- like if you give to much gas to a cold carb car when cold - New air / fuel filter by the way..I am Quite good W/ GM/Ford/ - But mazda's are different story-(God I hope they aren't as bad as my 91 GTI was...)

I'll try to pull some codes and check some connections, tps tomorrow - I'll let you know-

TYVM-

Chances are it's your tps or your afm. Good luck, luckily they are pretty cheap from guys on the different boards
